Hello!

I’m Damon. I’m forging a new career in technical writing, editing, content management, and digital marketing.

About me...

I’m searching for remote employment opportunities, but I’m also interested in on-site, part-time work north of San Diego in Oceanside, Carlsbad, or Vista.

In January 2025, I completed a Digital Marketing program from General Assembly, which taught me how to prompt AI agents to help with everyday marketing tasks: plan, research, write, and edit.

Furthermore, I shifted educational attention from SEO to Generative Engine Optimization (GEO). My SEO experience and web production skills should mesh well with today’s AI-driven GEO search engine requirements.

In 2023, I earned a Technical Communication certificate from UC Berkeley, which refined my research, writing, and editing skills.

Despite a technical writing and web development career in Silicon Valley, I moved to Chicago in 2001 to attend Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism. Afterward, I spent 10 years as a newspaper web producer:

Eventually, I transitioned away from newspapers to prioritize my family and our real estate investments. My skillset includes writing, editing, SEO, HTML, CSS, and proficiency in content management systems. Moreover, I’m a photo hobbyist who’s edited thousands of photos for publications.‍ ‍

I’m poised to create, communicate, and contribute. I seek teamwork. Not long ago, I excelled in training and mentoring producers. I developed programs to guide reporters, photographers, and editors in integrating social media and web production into their workflows. My range of skills and experiences include:

  • Storytelling

  • Researching

  • Writing

  • Editing

  • Digital marketing

  • SEO

  • Project planning

  • Presentation

Meanwhile, I’m a donor and a volunteer to Surfrider Foundation’s San Diego Chapter, which fights to protect the oceans, waves, and beaches of San Diego County. And I’m interested in joining Save Oceanside Sand (SOS), which fights to save Oceanside’s deteriorating beaches.

I fell in love with the art when I was a newspaper delivery boy. Subsequently, I produced thousands of website photos during my journalism career. Eventually, I stepped behind the lens.

Storytelling with Data

I recently discovered the joy of storytelling with data, thanks to Cole Nussbaumer Knaflic, Giorgia Lupi, and Stefanie Posavec. Check out my resume as a hand-drawn data visualization.
